Black Quartz

Black Quartz, sometimes referred to as Morion Quartz when fully opaque, is a variety of quartz with a deep black coloration. This striking mineral is a result of natural irradiation during its formation, giving it its dark, mysterious appearance. Black Quartz can range from translucent smoky gray to completely opaque black. It is known for its grounding and protective properties and is highly valued in metaphysical practices for its ability to absorb and transmute negative energies.

Colors of Black Quartz

• Dark Gray/Smoky Black: Semi-transparent to translucent varieties are known as Smoky Quartz and are more common. These range from pale smoky gray to a deep, smoky black.
• Opaque Black: This fully black variety is sometimes called Morion Quartz and is rarer. It appears as solid black with no transparency.

Where Black Quartz is Found

Black Quartz, particularly in its smoky varieties, is found in many parts of the world. Some key locations include:

• Brazil: Known for large deposits of high-quality quartz, including smoky and black varieties.
