Marcasite

Marcasite is a mineral closely related to pyrite, often mistaken for it due to their similar metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue. However, marcasite and pyrite differ in crystal structure and stability; marcasite has an orthorhombic crystal structure, making it less stable and more brittle than the isometric (cubic) structure of pyrite. Marcasite is primarily composed of iron sulfide and is often used in jewelry, known for its reflective properties and historical significance.

Where It's Found: Marcasite is found worldwide, with notable deposits in the United States, Czech Republic, Russia, and Peru. It frequently occurs in sedimentary environments such as limestone and clay, as well as in hydrothermal veins alongside other minerals.
